Importance of Face to Face Communication

As more communication up and down the line at work is done electronically, face-to-face discussion can easily fall by the wayside. While the speed and volume of communication increases with e-mail, voicemail and instant messaging, some of the dialogue and personal touch can start to disappear.

A global survey shows that 67 percent of senior executives and managers say their organization would be more productive if their superiors communicated more often by personal discussion. While they desire more personal discussion from their superiors, however, the top personal method of communicating for these same business leaders is e-mail, based on the survey by NFI Research.

“Too many people take the easy way out and try and do everything via e-mail and in a lot of cases consume more time on both sides of the equation than they would have by simply picking up the phone or going to see the person,” said one survey respondent. “I often find that when I look the other person in the eyes and ask them something I get far more than I ever would over e-mail.”

“Personal discussion is the foundation of communications,” said another respondent. It enables all of the other forms of communication. Having a personal connection builds trust and minimizes misinterpretation and misunderstanding.”

Identity Management

Its amazing how we can have so many identities, especially online. When I participate on different social sites I sought of represent myself in different types of ways. For example, I have a facebook account, linked in and I also blog frequently but they each represent a different image of me.

Linkedin is my professional self what i ought to be. I say it is what I ought to be because with this account I present myself in a profession manner at all times, my profile picture is me in business attire, I speak very properly and present myself in a behavior which I don't execute on a daily basis.

When I blog it is my ideal self, I type funny comments and use an alter ego name. When I am blogging it as if I become this totally different person who is not shy and very outspoken which isn't my personality at all.

Facebook is my actual self presented how i am. On facebook I present myself how I do on a daily basis because it is just my friends who see my profile, wall post and pictures. I feel as if I can just be me on facebook because I know no anonymous people can view my page because its private.

Community for Lesbians

Community is a group of people coming together as one. In a community the people within share common interest, have similar views, depending on what type of community they are belonging to. For example, the lesbian community, it involves girls who like other girls and they sometimes face the same challenges as one another and bond together because of it. Now a straight girl would not fit in that community because she doesn't know what its like. There are many organizations lesbians are joined to such as http://www.lgbtcenters.org/. On this website lesbians can join centerlink where they can get resources to find community centers for lesbians.

All About CenterLink

CenterLink was founded in 1994 as a member-based coalition to support the development of strong, sustainable LGBT community centers. The organization has played an important role in supporting the growth of LGBT centers across the country and addressing the challenges they face, by helping them to improve their organizational and service delivery capacity and increase access to public resources. Based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, CenterLink works with other national organizations to advance the rights of LGBT individuals and to provide LGBT community centers with information and analysis of key issues.

Serving over 200 LGBT community centers across the country in 46 states and the District of Columbia, as well as centers in Canada, Israel, Mexico, China and Peru, CenterLink assists newly forming community centers and helps strengthen existing LGBT centers, through networking opportunities for center leaders, peer-based technical assistance and training, and a variety of capacity building services. Our efforts are based on the belief that LGBT community centers are primary change agents in the national movement working toward the liberation and empowerment of LGBT people. Serving over 600,000 people, they are the heart and soul of the LGBT movement and are vital to our current well-being and dreams for the future. Whether they provide direct services, educate the public or organize for social change, community centers work more closely with their LGBT constituency and engage more community leaders and decision-makers than any other LGBT network in the country.

Centers serve a vital and multi-faceted role in many communities across the country. They are often the only staffed non-profit LGBT presence in the area and the first point of contact for people seeking information, coming out, accessing services or organizing for social change. 40% of LGBT centers provide direct health care and 10% of these centers exclusively serve LGBT communities of color, youth, seniors or women. At the same time, half of the LGBT community centers have budgets under $50,000 and no full-time staff.

A fundamental goal of there mission is to help build the capacity of centers to meet the social, cultural, health and political advocacy needs of LGBT community members across the country. CenterLink also acts as a voice for LGBT community centers in national grassroots organizing, coalition building and social activism in order to strengthen and build a unified center movement.
